Saturday 1st February, 07.45am and we were off out on another mini meet. Today's destination was Donna Nook once again to photograph the seals but this time with a difference.
Our last visit was in November during the pupping season, at which time access is restricted to behind the fence alongside the seal sanctuary in order to protect the seals during this important time. However, now we are in to February the pupping season is over, and the seal warden's reopened the beach a couple of weeks ago after the last of the pups had left the sanctuary and made for the sea. This gave us opportunity to take the long walk out on to the beach and down to the surf and get to seal level for some shots of these creatures.
The beach that is Donna Nook reserve is huge and this allowed us to keep plenty of room between ourselves and the seals for our own safety as well as theres. I'm pleased to say there looked to be a good number down there, some of which were lazing on the beach whilst many others were bobbing up and down in the sea seemingly watching us with great curiosity.
It was a very enjoyable day, the weather was fantastic if a little cold but we had prepared well and we all managed to come away with some nice seal shots as well as some of the other creatures on the beach, including shots of each other. Please take a look through the gallery below.
